Dr. Chelsea S. Smith

As I begin my second year as principal of Ferndale Middle School, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the 2026–27 school year! The 2025–26 school year was one of tremendous growth and achievement for our students. Throughout the year, our students made significant gains academically, socially, and in so many other areas. Their hard work, resilience, and commitment to growth made last year truly special.

Our guiding motto, “Excellence is the Expectation, and the Only Option,” will continue to be at the heart of our work this school year. We will build upon the successes of last year while continuing to challenge our students and staff to reach their highest potential.

I look forward to another year of continued success in all areas as we work together to create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, valued, and empowered to succeed. I am especially excited about strengthening our partnerships with parents, families, and community members. When we work together, we create even greater opportunities for our students to thrive.

Mr. Dereck Sadler

Greetings Ferndale Family. My name is Dereck Sadler and I will serve as your assistant principal this year. We are looking forward to a SPECTACULAR year filled with joy, growth, collaboration, and achievement. Our teachers are a dedicated group of amazing educators who are motivated to provide scholars with a meaningful and engaging educational experience.

This year, our 8th grade students will explore career pathways in preparation for high school and college. I ask parents and all stakeholders to be a part of our academic journey and welcome any feedback intended to improve student outcomes.

Ferndale Middle is a dynamic school that continues to grow scholars, and we anticipate another phenomenal year.

Mrs. Robin McGee-Cox

Hello Ferndale Family! I am Robin Magee-Cox, and I am excited to join you this year as your Principal Intern. With more than 20 years of experience as an educator and teacher leader, I am honored to be part of the Ferndale Middle School Community.

This will be a phenomenal year, one that will engage, inspire, and challenge our students as they learn, grow, and discover their potential. I believe positive outcomes for students are grounded in strong instructional practices, meaningful school and family partnerships, high expectations, and a commitment to supporting the whole child.

This year, I want to partner with our students, families, and staff as we continue to build a legacy of excellence at Ferndale. Together, we will create a school community where every student feels valued, supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed. I look forward to learning alongside you. Go Trojans!
